Obituary of Frieda Hubick
FREIDA HUBICK
November 11, 1921 – June 16, 2014
Freida Hubick (née Scherle), was born to Karl and Paulina Scherle on November 11, 1921 in the Duval district. The family moved to the Snow Drop area near North Southey Lutheran Church where she was confirmed and later married. Frieda attended Snow Drop School and later worked for different farm families as a housekeeper. On November 2, 1947 she married Ferdinand Hubick, a young farmer in the area. They built a new home in the Bryn Mawr district where they farmed until retirement. Like many farmers wives, she grew a garden, did chores daily, baked, pickled and canned. Their marriage was blessed with four children; two girls and two boys. Her faith brought her and her family to church regularly. Frieda was a member of the ‘Ladies Aid’, and sang in the choir in later years. There were many family trips to the salt waters of Manitou Beach with picnics and home fried chicken. Fernie and Frieda moved to Southey upon retirement where playing cards and visiting with friends became part of their new life. They also took several bus trips for a holiday or to visit family. As the years went by, as it was time to down-size a little, they made the move to the Southey Lodge. After Fernie’s passing and her failing health, Frieda moved to the Cupar and District Nursing Home, where she celebrated her 90th birthday. Here Frieda remained until the day of her passing at the age of 92 years. Freida was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Ferdinand; her son, Keith; sister Anna Rein; and brothers, Arnold and Lawrence Scherle. She is survived by her children, Laura Church, Berniece (Norman) Wagner and Orval (Cathy) Hubick; daughter-in-law Gwen Kelbeck (Merle); her grandchildren, Aaron and Jeffrey Church, Derek, Blair (Debbie) and Corey Wagner, Kim Lang, Raymond (Laura) and Corynn Hubick; her great grandchildren, Ashlynn Wagner, Tayte, Tavyn and Phoenix Wagner, and Logan and London Hubick; sisters Clara Mohr and Maria Kifferling; brother Ernest (Margaret) Scherly; sister-in-law Angie Scherle; and numerous nieces and nephews. May she rest in peace! Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Southey, or a charity of your choice.
