Obituary of Raymond Korpus

RAYMOND “RAY” KORPUS October 10, 1927 - June 21, 2014 Ray passed away peacefully at Regina General Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 21, 2014. Husband to Sonia (née Zenchyshyn); father to Roman (Sandra), Audey (Jill), Zenia and Zevin (Maureen); Dido “grandfather” to Brianna, Alexa, Darian, Matthias, Sofia, Rueben and Azaria. Ray was the eldest child of Peter and Olga Korpus. Born in Regina, he was a Regina boy through and through. He grew up in Regina’s large Ukrainian community where he and his sisters, Patricia (Sembaliuk), Nadia and brother Don (predeceased) participated in community and church events. It was through this community that he met Sonia, and they recognized their 50th wedding anniversary on February 22 of this year. Ray spent his high school years at Balfour Collegiate where he was active in sports teams and clubs. He then went on to be a student (automotive mechanics) and teacher (automotive mechanics) at Regina Community College. From there he worked until his entrepreneurial interests led to his own businesses in transmission repair, car washing, automotive performance equipment, outdoor recreational equipment and air charter services. His passions included singing, antique cars and collecting memorabilia. Director of church and Ukrainian community choirs, member of the Regina Philharmonic Choir, Past President - Regina Flying Club, active member of the Regina Eastview Rotary Club and Antique Auto Club of Regina. Many thanks go out to the doctors and nurses at Regina General Hospital’s MICU who provided great care and comfort to him in his final days. Requiem (Panachyda) will be held at the Descent of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1305 - 12th Avenue, Regina, on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Rite will be held at the same location on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with the Very Rev. Archpriest Slawomir Lomaszkiewicz officiating. Flowers gratefully declined.
