Obituary of Albert Edward Sefton

Albert Edward Sefton passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014. Albert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley, his children, John of Regina and Terry (Ruth Mitchell) of London, Ontario; and his grandchildren, Oberon and Sky Goodden, and April and Ben Sefton. Born in 1923 in Melfort, Saskatchewan, Albert will be remembered by many as a long time French teacher in Regina, and as an avid tennis player and musician. Albert trained with the Air Force as a bombadier and went to university on the Veteran’s Act. He attended the University of Saskatchewan, where he met and married Shirley (Hodgins). Al and Shirley moved to Regina in 1951, where Al took up a teaching position at Central Collegiate. He supplemented his income by playing in dance bands, including Andy Gable’s Band. Al played trumpet and piano, and continued to tickle the ivories to the end. After spending a year sabbatical in France where he took a master’s at the Université d’Aix-Marseille, he returned to take over as Department Head of Languages at Campbell Collegiate. Al was predeceased by his mother Celine (Berard) Sefton and siblings, Bruce (Josie), Mary (Fred), Stan (Annie), Eileen (Jim), Tom (Mona) and John (Fauntie). The seven siblings were brought up in tough times by their mother who encouraged all her children to get an education and to play music. It is a legacy Al passed on not only to his children and grandchildren but to all he taught. There will be a Private Family Interment held. In lieu of flowers friends may wish to make a donation in Al’s name to the charity of their choice.
