Obituary of Dorothy Elizabeth Jean Bird

Dorothy was born December 24, 1924 and passed away on July 17, 2014. When God came to take her home, Celia, as always was by her side. Dorothy was born on the family farm four miles from Avonhurst and spent her younger days working on the family farm. In 1952 Dorothy, her mom, her sister Celia and her brother Bill relocated to Regina. She remained there until the time of her death. Dorothy completed her schooling at Rosenberg, a small school in the middle of the prairies. She enjoyed a long career at Sears but her most enjoyable times were working with her family in the garden and then preserving everything she could get her hands on. Dorothy also loved flowers; especially the gladiolas and the pansies. She loved flowers not only for their beauty but also the wonderful birds which surrounded them. As we all know, the hummingbirds were her favorite. Among Dorothy’s many talents was her ability to keep the family records straight. If you ever wanted to know a birth date, anniversary, address or family history, she was the one you could always count on to have an answer. And it wasn’t just about family matters.I don’t think anyone knew more about or followed the Saskatchewan Roughriders closer than Dorothy did. Dorothy will be missed by her sisters Celia, Maris, Phyllis; her brother Bill; her brother-in-law Reno; her many nieces and nephews; as well as her friends who have come to know and love her dearly. A Funeral Service will be held at the Old Vernon St. Thomas Church on July 22, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. A get together for her relatives and friends will be held after the service. Location will be announced at the end of the church service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to a charity of your choice. Flowers are welcome and will be enjoyed but donations to help those in need would bring more peace to our family.
