Obituary of Dorothy Mae Burwell

DOROTHY MAE BURWELL Our beautiful mom, grandma and great grandma – Dorothy Mae Burwell - passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by her husband Brock; her parents, Nellie and Eugene Hendrickson; her brothers, Wendell and Ken Hendrickson; and her son-in-law, Bill Rakochuk. Dorothy is survived by her children, Laurel Rakochuk, Gaye (Ron) Schwanbeck, Joy Ganne and John Burwell; grandchildren, Yvonne (Todd) Smith, Adrienne (Curt) Bowkowy, Allison (David) Larsen, Shane (Ashley) Schwanbeck, Preston, Carmen (Jess), Brandon (Tammy) Ganne, and Colby and Marissa Burwell and their mom Ruth; great grandchildren, Kyla and Erica Smith, Leah and Luke Bowkowy, and Jack and Henry Larsen; sister Lois (Gordon) Byce. Mom was best known for her generosity, kindness and great sense of humour. Her knitting skills and angel food cakes were legendary. There are so many people that have been the recipients of mom’s talents. She was a huge sports fan by following hockey, baseball, football and, especially, curling. Mom enjoyed participating in many bonspiels. One of Dorothy’s favourite memories was when she and dad took the entire family to Hawaii for Christmas - not once but twice! We all have very sweet memories of those trips that we reminisce about often. Her greatest joys were her nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dorothy, may be made to Canadian Blood Services, 2571 Broad Street, Regina, SK, S4P 4H6 or Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK, S4R 8P6.
