Obituary of Andrius Kazimieras Labenskas

ANDRIUS KAZIMIERAS LABENSKAS Andrius, late of Regina, passed away in the evening of Thursday, July 24, 2014. He was predeceased by his father Jonas and mother Marija, both from Lithuania. Andrius is survived by his younger brother, Leonas. Born on April 26, 1949, he was baptized at Blessed Sacrament Church in Regina by the Late Rev. Gabriel Schachtel, with his Godparents, Stanley and Janina Shepetys. Andrius attended Sacred Heart School and Campion College. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in biology. He lived in Regina throughout his life. He received an Optimist Club Youth Appreciation Award for being a good role model for his peers. This was based on his positive attitude and contributions, strong work ethic, and showing respect and compassion for others. Participation in the Reach for the Top TV Show Grand Championship in 1966, along with classmates Ron Pettigrew, Henry Keller and Richard McDonald, was special for Andrius. Winning the contest was a bonus. He appreciated the talents of other people and would engage in lively conversations on topics of interest. Andrius also enjoyed activities like scouting, bike riding and travelling. Thank you to all who made his journey through life pleasurable: his parents, brother, friends, neighbours, schoolmates, and teachers. Thank you to the Late Dr. George Ledingham, University of Regina, for allowing Andrius to work in the herbarium classifying plants and putting into practice what was learned in biology classes. Also, thank you to Hoechst Canada-Agriculture Division for helping Andrius obtain work experience in the field. They observed a keen desire in him to learn and contribute to the industry, and he did his work with the highest quality. Andrius will be missed, but memories remain to be cherished. Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, SK, on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Sadiadas Antony celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Andrius, may be made to Christ the King RC Church Fund, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, SK, S4S 1X8.
