Obituary of Roger Poissant

JOSEPH ROCH GASTON ROGER POISSANT Roger was born to Roch and Annette Poissant on February 25, 1926 and he passed away July 31, 2014. He was predeceased by his father and mother, and his wife of fifty seven years in 2007, Rita (née Biegler). Roger is survived by his son Gene (Fita) and their children Celine and Ian: his son Paul (Tina) and their children Julia and Luke: his son Roch (Bonnie) and their children Daniel, Jennifer (Jarvis) Wright and their children Aura and Aden Wright, Jeffrey: his son Rene. Roger is also survived by his siblings, brother Marcel (Donna Mae), sisters Laurette Parent and Jacqueline Meyer, sisters-in-law Dorothy Seibel, Roselyn (William) Paisley, Anne (Nowell) Stables and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives. Roger was the Secretary-Treasurer for the Sask Wheat Pool local Pinkie elevator for many years. He was the Secretary-Treasurer for the City-view Rural Telephone Company for about thirty years until it was acquired by SaskTel. Roger was a member of the R.M. of Sherwood council for 40 years, eighteen of which he was the Reeve. He was a member of the Regina Economic Development Authority as well as on the Regina Airport Board representing the R.M. of Sherwood. Roger was elected to the three member church board in 1960. He was able to secure a loan to construct the current church building at 2517 - 25th Avenue in Regina. Roger was a Trustee for many years and was appointed as Treasurer of the church by Archbishop O'Neil. He was initiated into the Knights of Columbus on January 11, 1956, Council #1247 and was a Charter Member of the Langevin Council #4280. Roger held most positions of office, including Grand Knight. He was an Alter Server for special mass services and was the President of the Old Age Club at the parish where he enjoyed playing cards. Roger could always be relied on to lend a helping hand whether it was staffing (or attending) church functions. He lived and worked on the farm all his life and was still actively farming at the age of 88. Roger took immense pride in his family and especially enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Prayers will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday August 7, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church, 2517 - 25th Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Baptist Okai presiding. Interment to follow in Riverside Memorial Park, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Roger, may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan 279 - 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8.
