Obituary of Brigid Murphy

BRIGID BRIDIE? MURPHY June 8, 1923 January 22, 2013 On Monday, January 22, 2013, Bridie passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a very brief illness. She was 89 years old and joked with us at Christmas that no one wants to live to 90 until they are 89 .? Bridie was born in county Donegal, Ireland on June 8, 1923. She was the youngest of 10 children and the last surviving member of her family. She immigrated to Canada in 1955, and in 1956 married Edward. Together, they lived and worked in Regina and raised their family. Her world revolved around her family and she loved nothing more than time spent with her children and grandchildren. She loved watching her kids, and later her grandkids sporting events. Though she knew very little about the games we played, she proudly supported us. Endless bus trips to watch her boys play hockey, struggling up the bleachers to watch her grandsons high school basketball games and more recently, trekking up the stairs at Taylor Field to watch her beloved Riders, Mom was our biggest fan. Laughter was plentiful and often at Moms expense. Her clever Irish folk sayings and her unconventional health treatments were a constant source of entertainment. She had the great ability to laugh at herself and taught us all that laughter truly was the best medicine. Bridie was fiercely independent, and to the end, lived in her own condo, cooking, cleaning and caring for herself. Bridie lived a wonderful life content in its simplicity and grateful for all its goodness and prosperity. An unwavering faith in God guided and comforted her every day of her life. Predeceased by her husband Edward in 2004, Bridie is survived by her children Kay (Ian) Neufeld, Leo and Kelly (Karen); and her beloved grandsons, Patrick and Brennan Neufeld, Benjamin Murphy and Samuel Murphy. She was our matriarch; her selflessness, wisdom and strength will be missed. A family graveside service will be held at Riverside Memorial Park. Friends so wishing may make a donation, in memoriam, to the Salvation Army, Division Headquarters, 2240 13th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 3M7.
