Obituary of Janet Catherine Lane

JANET LANE Our friend, sister and aunt Janet Lane passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 with family at her side after a brief struggle with pneumonia. Jan is predeceased by her parents Reverend Homer Lane and Grace Lane, who passed in 1974 and 1993, respectively. Janet was born in 1951, the cheerful and healthy younger sister to Dick and Margaret. Her lifes path was altered significantly at the age of two, a victim of meningitis. Jan grew up in the warm embrace of her parents faith community and was a fixture at St. Andrews United Church in Moose Jaw and then Knox-Metropolitan in Regina throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s. Janet had many friends in her life, primarily through her 40-year association with Cosmopolitan Activity Center in Regina and residence at Sunset Extendicare. Janet was passionate about Cosmos and eager to see her friends every day. She is remembered by everyone as full of life, enthusiastic and cheerful at all times. Janet is also missed and fondly remembered by the Sunset Extendicare community of residents and health professionals, where she lived for more than 30 years. Visitors to the West Wing will remember Jan for her welcoming smile, youthful exuberance and appearance, which belied her true age. For someone not expected to live beyond her teens, Jans resilience and energy over her 61-year life was truly remarkable. She received extremely fine care over the years and formed a lasting bond with residents and staff. Jan had the enduring love of siblings Margaret and David Hall, Dick and Catherine Lane and their children Cathy Hall (Claude Lelievre) Maureen Hall (Lori Lucier) Pat Lane (Steve Lennon), Bob Lane (Janet Jule) and Margo Lane (Bruce Roe). Jan was intensely interested in those around her and loved displaying photos of her great nieces and nephews, friends and favourite pets. Many a visitor was caught unprepared and sent straight home by Jan to bring the latest photo for her collection. In addition to family visits, Jan looked forward to holiday gatherings at the home of her extended family, Lou and Terry Jule of Regina, none more so than the parties celebrating the birth date she shared with Terry. Jan was also blessed with the care and attention of longtime best friends Bea Wouters and Lorna Spencer, who had a profound effect on the quality of Jans life. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
