Obituary of Beverly Charlotte McKenzie

BEVERLY CHARLOTTE McKENZIE July 20, 1918 July 10, 2012 Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Beverly, passed away peacefully in her home on July 10, 2012, at the age of 93 years. Beverly was born on July 20, 1918, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Charles and Florence Bodin. She graduated from South High School as a valedictorian. During the Depression, money was not available for Beverly to continue her education and pursue her dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher. Instead, she worked as a stenographer for insurance attorneys. She met her husband, Robert (Bert) McKenzie, while he was attending the University of Minnesota. They married in 1940 and lived in various Canadian cities where Bert served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. In 1945, they moved to Regina, Berts home town, where Bert joined McKenzie Auto Equipment Ltd. Bert passed away in 2008. Beverly created a nurturing and loving home for her children and grandchildren, a refuge where they were always welcomed and loved unconditionally. She is a charter member of Lakeview United Church and taught Sunday School there for 25 years. She enjoyed her family, her pets, long walks in Wascana Park, knitting, gardening, collecting antiques and beautiful objects, and inspirational writings. Beverly led a quiet life during which she touched many, many people with her kindness and thoughtfulness. Her beautiful face and beautiful smile reflected her inner beauty. She was truly an angel here on earth. Beverly is survived by her children, Karen (Paul) Stillwell of Arnold, Maryland, and Robert (Tess) McKenzie of Manila, Philippines; her grandchildren, Joseph (Loren), Robert, and James Stillwell, and Lena McKenzie; her great-grandchildren, Archie and Ruby Stillwell. Thank you very much to the nurses of the Regina QuAppelle Palliative Home Care Services. There will be a small Graveside Service on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the Field of Honour for Veterans at Riverside Memorial Park.
