Obituary of William Robert Dixon

WILLIAM ROBERT DIXON At the age of 93 years, Bill passed away peacefully with his son and daughter-in-law by his side on the morning of Friday, July 27th 2012 in Lumsden, SK. Bill was born in Kamsack, SK on August 6, 1918. He later moved to Saskatoon and in 1939 he, along with his brothers, signed up to serve in WWII. During the war, he served as a Lead Aircraftsman in a variety of locations in Canada. In 1942 Bill married Jean Elizabeth Stevenson and made their home in Saskatoon. Before and after the war, Bill worked as a foreman at the Dairy and Poultry Pool for over 35 years, processing cream sent in from farms in the Saskatoon area. Later, he worked as a building supervisor in downtown Saskatoon until his retirement. Throughout his life, Bill had a tremendous love of both golf and curling. In his retirement years he would tell how he would play 36 holes in a day, carrying his own golf bag. Also, he would talk about curling in the earlier years in the "January Thaw bonspiels". As well, Bill was always known as a wonderful gardener. He was always very generous and there to help family with different projects, from planting trees and landscaping, to helping build a log home on an island on Lac la Ronge. Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Jean in 2006 and his grandson Timothy in 2001. Bill is survived by his son Donald and his children Stuart and Carissa; his son David and his wife Patty and their daughter Amy. He is also survived by his sister Vi Peel and his brother Alf Dixon, together with many nieces and nephews and their families. Bill's family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the kindness and care he received from all the staff at the Lumsden and District Heritage Home in the last years of his life.
