Obituary of Myrtle Edith Elma Hastings

MYRTLE EDITH ELMA (EDIE) HASTINGS (nee BURNETT) Edie, born November 25, 1923 in Virden MB to James Alexander and Eva (nee Lansing) Burnett, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her husband Ted; brothers, Bill and Bert. Edie is survived by her five loving children: Sharon (Gord), grandchildren, Chris (Jennifer), Dan, Joel (Danielle) and Paul, five great-grandchildren; Bill (Helen), grandchildren, Scott (Kym), Kim (Jason) and Wade (Dannette), six great-grandchildren; John (Bev), grandchildren, Shane (Jayne), Bree and Stacy (Erin), seven great-grandchildren; Barry (Leigh); Terri (Jeff); sister-in-law Jean (Alex) Sojonky; numerous nieces and nephews. Special thaks to her favourite caregivers, Vicky, Rosie, Maria and her special neighbour at Pioneer Village, Brenda McKay. Edie met Ted on Valentines Day in 1941 at a dance in Virden, Manitoba. He always said he spotted her wearing a red sweater. He walked the streets of Virden until he found her. They were married October 9, 1941. They had several moves before they settled in Regina, and in retirement moved to their cottage at Buena Vista. Edie had a hard life at times, but never complained - her door, ears and heart were always open. Edie loved to dance and had a good time, and loved her Scottish music. She was very active. She loved to sew for others, knit, crochet, do petit point, gardening and construction (her rock wall and brick arbour). She was very involved in organizing events and improvements at Buena Vista, especially with Parks and Recreation. The Dobson Heights Rink change house was named in her honour. Edie also wrote weekly articles for the Waterfront Press. Residents past and present looked forward to her newsy articles. Ted died in 1996. Several years later Edie had to move to Regina to Davis Mews, William Albert and finally Pioneer Village. Edie was also known as Hurricane Edie, Hoot-n-Anny Granny (she rode a motorcycle and ski-doo) and Grams. Sharon says her friends were scared of her! She was one of a kind. We love you Edie. Rest in Peace and dont cause too much trouble in the great beyond?. Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina SK at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Flowers most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to the charity of their choice.
