Obituary of Elizabeth 'Edna' Barkwell

ELIZABETH EDNA BARKWELL Edna, late of Emerald Park, born August 14, 1918, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, nine days short of her 94th birthday. Edna was predeceased by her beloved husband John in 2005; parents John and Ellen Griffin; brothers Edwin (Dorothy) Griffin and Albert (Mary) Griffin; and sisters Nance (Bill) Clarke and Bunny (Frank) Bull. She was also predeceased by daughter-in-law Beverley Barkwell and grandson Scott Barkwell, as well as brother- and sister-in-law Stewart and Betty Barkwell, and sisters-in-law Elsie Barkwell and Nana Barkwell. Edna will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Garry (Sue) Barkwell, Jim Barkwell and Janice (Gary) Winslow; grandchildren Lauren (Perry) Rozon, Tracy (Pat) Carrigan, Leanne Jorgensen, Blake Winslow and Doug Winslow; great-grandchildren Jaiden and Stephen Carrigan, Jake and Jessie Barkwell (and their mother Kelley), and Emma, Olivia and Alise Jorgensen. She is also survived by sister Mildred (Harvey) Schulhauser, brother-in-law Lorne Barkwell, and numerous nieces, nephews and other loved ones. Married in 1939, Edna and John farmed north of Dysart for 46 years, before retiring in 1985 to Fort QuAppelle, where they happily resided together for the next 20 years. In addition to farm life generally, Edna loved holidaying with John, gardening, playing cards, visiting with family and friends, socializing, and welcoming guests into her home. Edna moved into the William Albert Care Home in Emerald Park in 2010. The family would like to extend its sincere thanks to the staff at William Albert for making Mum feel so much at home over the past two years. We would like to thank Dr. McHattie for his many efforts in treating Mum over the past eighteen months, as well as all the doctors and nurses in wing 4A at the Pasqua Hospital for their understanding and compassionate care during her final days. Ednas wonderful sense of humour, keen mind, and lively conversation will be greatly missed. Flowers most gratefully declined. In remembrance, friends so wishing may make a donation to a charity of their choice. In loving memory of Edna, a memorial service will be held in Regina on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 1:00 pm, at the Speers Funeral Chapel at 2136 College Avenue.
