Obituary of Albert Robert Fischl

Our beloved Bert passed away peacefully, and into the hands of Our Lord on Wednesday September 9, 2015. He was predeceased by his parents Joe and Julia Fischl; four brothers, Joseph, Carl, Raymond and Lawrence and three sisters Kay McHeffey, Clara Hackl and May O’Sullivan. Bert is survived by his loving wife Joan (nee Beaton); his son, John (Kathleen) Fischl; daughters, Catherine (James) Ternes, Valerie (Brad) Banilevic and Sharon (Darrin) McKechnie; nine grandchildren, Earl (Lesley) Fischl, Amanda Dureau (Dean Puffalt), Adam Banilevic, Natasha Ternes, Tyler Ternes, Alexandra Banilevic, Austin Banilevic, Tanner McKechnie and Payton McKechnie; three great grandchildren, Quin Fischl, Jake Dureau and Ava Fischl; one sister, Margaret Hall as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bert was born on September 7, 1931 in the small village of Pilger, SK. (20 miles north of Humboldt). His parents were mixed farmers and lived 3 ½ miles from Pilger. After completing elementary school in Pilger. Bert lived with his oldest sister, Kay, in Humboldt taking his grades 9,10 and 11. He then moved back with parents in Middle Lake (4 miles north of Pilger) and in 1950 completed his grade 12 through Correspondence Courses. On January 8, 1951, Bert joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, completed training in Ottawa and Regina, graduating in August, 1951. After one year on Security Duties in Ottawa, in 1952 Bert was transferred to Prince Edward Island on General Detachment and Investigative Duties, first for 2 ½ years in Souris, and then in Charlottetown where he met his loving wife, Joan. They were married on June 5, 1956. In July, 1959, Bert was drafted into the Security and Intelligence Directorate (now known as C.S.I.S) and transferred to Headquarters, Ottawa. He was promoted to Corporal in November 1961. After seven years in Headquarters, Ottawa, Bert was transferred to Regina in July, 1966 and was promoted to Sergeant in November 1966. Rather than accept a transfer back to Ottawa, Bert retired from the R.C.M.P. on January 8, 1973. He then worked for the Unemployment Insurance Corporation for two years, then transferred to the Federal Department of Consumer Affairs until June 1978. Again, rather than being transferred to Winnipeg, Bert resigned and took the position of Security Director with Sask. Power until June 1987. After working as a Private Investigator and Security Consultant until February, 1988, he joined the Saskatchewan Gaming Commission as Investigator and Registration Manager until he retired in May, 1992. He then worked on a part-time basis with the Corps of Commissionaires since December 1994. Bert’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his wife and family members, having fun and enjoying leisure time with his loved ones. He loved playing golf and in his younger years Fastball. His favorite sports were going to hockey games and football. Joan and Bert enjoyed many winter vacations in Arizona, Florida, Jamaica and Cuba where they frequently met up with members of Joan’s or Bert’s family. At one time he was a member of Kinsmen and the Lions Clubs. In 1957, Bert joined the Knights of Columbus and has been an active member of Fathers Burns Council ever since, serving as Grand Knight, District Deputy and Commander of the Father Hugonard Assembly and a devout Catholic. Bert will always be remembered as a loving, loyal, trusting friend and for his serious nature by his loving wife and family and everyone who knew him. We will miss this very special person very much who we love more than words can express. Memorial Service will be held at the RCMP Chapel, Regina, SK on Monday September 14, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. The family wishes to thank Bert’s doctor who has cared for him throughout his illness and the hospital staff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bert’s name to the charity of your choice.
