Obituary of Ronald Robert Crossman

RONALD ROBERT BING? CROSSMAN Ronald Crossman passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Regina General Hospital in Regina, SK. Born on June 7, 1925 in Daylesford, Saskatchewan to Percy and Mildred Crossman, Bing was the fifth child of eleven children. He grew up as a young boy in rural Saskatchewan during the Depression. The impact of those times shaped the type of person Bing would become. He learned early in life that a good days work was the same as a hard days work and he never backed away from either. His trademark for many aspects of his life was dedication, honesty and the love of people. From a labourer pounding nails, he created a career that spanned 43 years at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool where he rose to the position of Manager of Construction. During the early years, Bing and Betty travelled to all corners of the province building grain elevators that were a common landmark in rural Saskatchewan. Building those elevators also meant building many friendships, most of which that have lasted a lifetime. If you asked Bing what year any of his children were born, he would determine the answer by recollecting what elevator he was building at the time. His trademark of dedication, honesty and love was foremost for his family. The life that Betty and Bing created over their 62 years together fueled this trademark. His children, Lesley (Glen Allen), Brenda (Roger Verhelst), Linda (Colleen Sutherland) and Percy (Colleen Murphy) were a constant source of entertainment and the stuff that stories were created from...many stories. Bing was very proud of each of his children and where they had taken each of their lives. This however was no comparison to the pride that he loved to demonstrate with each of his grandchildren, Danielle (Andrew Kuffner), Sarah (Ryan Russell), Nicole (Curtis Klatt), Daniel (Natalie Shewchuk), Dylan, Sydney, Ryan, Julie, Gina and Robert. Papa loved his grandchildren! Whether that meant building a dollhouse, "making smoke" in the shop, fishing, or working on their first car, he made a special time for each of them. And if that wasn't enough, his seven great-grandchildren, Jace, Jordan, Lucas, Addison, Evan, Tori and Trace brought many smiles to his face and laughter to his life. Bing had many talents, but his passion for music was only surpassed by his love to use his hands and mind to build things and build he could. For those of you that proudly own one of his wooden stools, a birdhouse or had an addition on your house or a garage or a shelf here or there, you know exactly how happy he was to do things for others. Please join our family in a Celebration of Bings Life? at St. Marys Parish Center, 2020 Winnipeg Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 1:00 4:00 p.m. (We hope to share uplifting moments of our dad with people in attendance and that will begin at 1:30 p.m.).
