Obituary of Hindrik Koopman

In loving memory of HINDRIK HENK? KOOPMAN July 14, 1928 - January 31, 2013 Henk Koopman passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the age of 84 years. Predeceased by his parents Thiemen and Everdina; brothers Klaas and Johan; sisters Hendrika and Aleida; three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law of the Netherlands. Survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jantje Jean?; son Henry (Patrice) of Sundre, AB; daughters Elizabeth of Ottawa, ON and Evelyn of Regina, SK; sister Thiemy Kampman (Johan) of the Netherlands. Other close family members include Clary and Arie Wesdyk of Regina; Annie Sneider, Jenny Koopman, Engbert Smid, Eva Muis, of the Netherlands; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also remembered by neighbours and many lifelong friends. Henk was born in Hardenberg, the Netherlands. Henk and his wife Jean married in the Netherlands in 1954 and lived in Rotterdam where Henk worked as an Architectural Engineer for several years before they immigrated to Canada in 1958. He obtained his Civil Engineering degree from the U of S and became a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of SK. He worked for the PFRA and then the Government of SK until retirement in 1987. After retirement, he then worked in private practice as a consulting engineer. Henk was also a gifted carpenter and passionate woodworker. Together, Henk and Jean built their family home in Regina and their cottage at the Resort Village of Island View, on Last Mountain Lake. He loved going to the cottage and spent many weekends there with family and friends, and also served as councillor on the Island View Council. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church serving on the Board of Members for many years and loved singing in the church choir. Henk was also a soccer enthusiast and was recognized for his dedication to the development of the sport in SK. For many years he served on the Board of Directors of the SK Soccer Assoc. and as President of the Provincial and Regina Soccer Referees Assoc. Henk enjoyed camping and fishing vacations in northern SK with family and friends, and in his retirement years he enjoyed traveling, cottage life, woodworking, and word and Sudoku puzzles. His passion for carpentry and woodworking was tremendous and he took great pride in all projects from kitchen cabinetry, furniture and numerous crafted items built from oak, his choice of wood. Henk was a caring and kind person, helping others in whatever way he could and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Funeral Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 2170 Albert Street, Regina, SK on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with interment at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in Henks memory may be made to the Music Fund of the First Presbyterian Church, 2170 Albert Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2T9, or to a charity of choice.
