Obituary of Margaret Novak

MARGARET NOVAK May 6, 1929 – March 11, 2017 Margaret passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the age of 87 years. Marnie, as she was known to everyone, was born on May 6, 1929 to parents William and Mary Drew of the Rowatt district south of Regina. In 1949 she married Eric Novak, a farmer from the area. They celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2014. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Eric in 2015 and daughter-in-law Ann Marie. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her children: Mark and his wife Susan Moore, Glen and his wife Nancy of Calgary, AB, Stephen and his wife Karen, Ellen and her husband Darcy Runge, Tim, Bernard and his wife Tania, and Donald; thirteen grandchildren and their spouses and seven great-grandchildren; and Judy Cano and Vivian Klein. She is survived by her sister Mary Lou and her husband Bob Novak, sister Maureen and her husband Wilf Uhren, brother John (Jack) and his wife Gaylene, and brother Ernest and his wife Marie; brother-in-law Leonard Novak and his wife Pauline. First educated at Springdale School, she went to high school at St. Canisius School in Sedley while boarding at the Loretto Convent. Before she was married, she first attended and then taught at Reliance Business School in Regina. Margaret lived in the Rowatt district most of her life and helped Eric with the farm as bookkeeper and devoted partner. She was proud of her large family and took delight in new arrivals. A gracious person with a sympathetic ear and a warm heart she was loved and admired by family, relatives, neighbours and friends. Margaret was often sought after for her advice and support. Her house, her garden and flowers, her cooking and baking skills were her source of pride. Margaret went to great lengths to create a happy and comfortable home. She and Eric were particularly devoted to the care of Donald with his special needs. Always a strong supporter of her church and community, Margaret was blessed with a full life surrounded by those she loved. Funeral Mass will be held at Little Flower R.C. Church, 420 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make donations in Margaret’s memory to Chip and Dale Homes, 974 Albert Street, Regina, SK, S4R 2P7.
