Margaret Rankin
On November 8, 2011 Margaret (Hanlin) Rankin, age 100 years, passed away at Parkside Extendicare in Regina, Sask.
Predeceased by her husband Dr. George Rankin in 1981; her mother Olive (Boyce) Hanlin in 1967; her father Alexander Munro Hanlin in 1966; all of her sisters and brothers, Jean Randall, Hugh Hanlin, Harvey Hanlin, Mavis Van Buskirk, Jack Hanlin, and Evelyn Reid. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Margaret enjoyed a long and happy life. She attended school in Miniota MB, and graduated with a teaching degree from Brandon College. She taught school in Willen and Oakburn, MB prior to her marriage to George in 1936. They moved to Regina in 1939. Margaret taught, and was the principal of the Reliance School of Commerce from 1941-1975.
Margaret was a member of the Zonta Club and the Independent Order of Daughters of the English Empire. She was very much a socialite, and very respected in the field of education.
Margaret and George enjoyed many summers at their cottage at Lake Katepwa. After her retirement she traveled extensively throughout the world for many years. She also enjoyed many winters in Palm Springs.
This grand lady will be missed by all that knew her. A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave., Regina on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 11:00 am. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
