Obituary of Viola Sylvia Hillis

VIOLA SYLVIA HILLIS 1938 2013 Vi passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, with her husband, her sons, many of her grandchildren, her long-time friend Faith and other family members at her side. Left to mourn is her husband Barry; sons Greg and Dave (Irene); grandchildren Amanda (Chris), Riekie (Jeff), Shaun (Amber), Murray, Christina (Kyle), Brian, Shawn and Rowan; great-grandchildren Devi, Seth, Justin, Hanna, Hunter, Curtis and Landon. She had many kids that proudly called her Gramma, Gramsbear, and most commonly, Gi Gi. Vi was predeceased by her first husband Bob and daughter Peggy. Vi was born in the Quill Lake region of SK near Wynyard where she really did walk up-hill to school at the Last Mountain School House. Later, Vi moved to Saskatoon to work at the University Hospital. There she met Bob and they married and raised three children, Greg born in 1957, Peggy born in 1958 and Dave born in 1959. In 1963, they moved to Regina, where Vi met her life-long friend Lynn Scott. A year later, they lost their daughter Peggy, who was killed in a tragic accident. In 1978, she married Barry Hillis, a local firefighter. While in Regina, Vi was an active volunteer with Cubs, Scouts, politics and she loved the Roughriders. A Celebration of Vis life will be held at a later date.
