Obituary of Lorne Harvey MacKay Luross

LORNE HARVEY LUROSS 1952 - 2011 Lorne passed away at home, his family by his side, on Thursday, November 17, 2011. He leaves to mourn his cherished partner Lynn Cavanagh; his beloved family members: parents Harvey and Peggy; sister Joanne (John) Edwardson; niece Jamie McGough (Paul Sloman); aunt Alice Watson; five close cousins, his close second cousins and their families. Lorne was born in Melville, June 16, 1952. He spent his early years on the farm near Atwater and, in 1960, moved to Regina where he attended Grant Road School, Campbell Collegiate and the University of Regina. In 1979 he joined the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency at Weyburn. Later transferred to Regina, he worked for SAMA for over 30 years - until he was diagnosed with brain cancer in August 2010. Lorne fought his illness with courage and dignity, never losing hope and seldom complaining. He was an avid reader of non-fiction and always well informed about world events. His colleagues at SAMA remember his new ideas, the accuracy of his work and his integrity. Members of Lornes family treasure memories of his quiet sense of humor, his kindness and gentleness of spirit: he will always be with us in our hearts and minds. Our thanks go out to the many Palliative Care home-health aides and nurses, and to the staff at Pioneer Village, for their compassion and kindness; to Lornes colleagues for taking time to bring him practical assistance, treats and words of encouragement; and to all who helped with transportation. A special note of appreciation to his brother-in-law John, and to Tom, Emily and Eleanor, for their unfailing love and support, towards Lorne and the rest of his family. A Memorial Service with Pastor Jeff Tank officiating will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3, would be most appreciated.
