Obituary of Gladys Winnifred Simpson

                                                 FEBRUARY 15, 1920 – JULY 22, 2017

Gladys, age 97, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at William Booth Special Care Home in Regina. She was born on February 15, 1920 in Nokomis, SK. on the family farm.  Mom attended schooling in Nokomis and the remaining years at a country school named Newlands.  She was employed with the Department of National Revenue of Canada in Regina.  Then the war was declared on Germany in 1941, mom moved down East to work in Ajax, Ontario.  She was employed in an ammunition plant where shells were manufactured for the war.  As the powder in the shells disagreed with moms’ health, she took a position in the plant office.

Gladys married Cecil Simpson at Nokomis Anglican Church on May 18, 1955.  In 1958, they purchased a farm at Condie, seven miles north of Regina.  They continued to farm there until their retirement in 1975, finally moving into Regina. After dad passed away, mom moved to Victoria Court Condos in Regina.  She was very happy living the condo lifestyle, socializing with new-found friends.  Over the years mom enjoyed travelling, playing Bridge, shopping and playing the machines at the Regina Casino. Mom was an active member of the Condie Ladies Club and an active member of the Eastern Star.  As well, she volunteered several years for the Old Timers Association.

Gladys was predeceased by her husband Cecil; brothers Jack and Robert Edwards; sister Phyllis Rennie; and grandson John Horbul.  She is survived by her brother Ken (Ruth) Edwards; daughters, Viola (Kurt) Hamm and Vicki (Michael) Rattray; grandchildren Carla (Don) Riemann, James Seal, Lisa Bueche, Jennifer (Trevor) Burke, Jeffery Horbul and Sarah Shenouda; several great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Our family wishes to thank all of the staff at William Special Care Home for your wonderful care of mom over the last four years.
