Obituary of Cornelia Bell

                                                           MAY 6, 1916 – JULY 23, 2017

Cornelia lived a full and active life filled with family, friends and music.  She passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2017.  Cornelia was born and grew up on a farm in Southeastern, Saskatchewan.  She was proud of her agrarian roots and often talked about the lifestyle and people who she knew from Heward, Saskatchewan. Music played a key role in Cornelia’s life. She began her music career at age 6 when her dad traded a granary of grain for a piano. By age thirteen she was playing organ every Sunday for St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Heward, Saskatchewan. She continued playing organ in Regina at Chalmers United Church, St. James United Church and later piano for the Canadian Club into her nineties. She married Benjamin Leonard Bell (1997) in 1940 and together they celebrated 57 years of marriage. In 1968 Cornelia achieved her A.R.C.T. from the Royal Conservatory of Music. She taught many music students who became life-long friends and kept in touch with her through her 101st year. She was a goal-oriented person who lived independently until age 100.  She remained positive and current her entire life. Cornelia will be dearly missed by her three sons, Robert (Katharine), Donald, James (Teresa); grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Susan Breisch officiating.  Flowers most gratefully declined. Friends, so wishing, may make memorial donations in Cornelia’s name to the Children’s Wish Foundation, 3602 Millar Avenue, Saskatoon, SK, S7P 0B1.
