Obituary of Shirley Jean Thompson

Shirley, born July 20, 1936, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at the age of 81. Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, William (Bill); parents, Maxwell and Isabelle; brother-in-law Cam Charlton; and sister-in-law Vivianne Gordon. She is survived by her son John (Sherry); grandchildren Catherine and Alexander; sister Joan Brannen; brother Dwayne Gordon; sister June (Jay) York; and her aunt Norma Popowicky.  Born in Crysler, Ontario, she graduated from Morewood High School and eventually moved into Ottawa. It was while working at the Bank of Canada that she met her future husband, Bill, and they were married in 1965. Together they moved to Vancouver and then to Regina in 1975, where they stayed after Bill’s retirement from the Bank of Canada in 1988. She enjoyed playing piano, curling, bowling, sewing and having coffee with friends. Shirley made Barbie doll clothes and Raggedy Anne and Andy dolls and worked in the fabric department at Eatons for several years. Later on, she evolved into quilting and was a member of the Prairie Piecemakers Quilters’ Guild. She was also a member of the Gyro Club of Regina. Public Visitation will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 3:00 p.m.  Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Cheryl Toth officiating. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park.  Flowers are welcome. Those so wishing are encouraged to support the Hospitals of Regina Foundation In memory of Shirley, either through their lotteries or by donation.
