Obituary of Dr. Richard John Kovach

DR. RICHARD (DICK) JOHN KOVACH June 24, 1945 November 30, 2011 Dick left us suddenly, but peacefully, while resting at home in Regina during the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 30, 2011. He was 66 years old. Left to cherish many wonderful memories are: Donna (nee Flodell), his loving partner and wife of 44 years, son John (Shelley) and grandson Spencer. Dick also leaves three sisters (Muriel, Gerry, and Audrey), numerous nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, countless friends and admirers, and his beloved Border Collie, Kayla. To many, Dick was known professionally as Dr. Richard Kovach, a well respected and pioneering practitioner of restorative and implant dentistry. Upon his graduation, With Distinction, from the University of Saskatchewan in 1976, Dick began his dental career in Tisdale, SK. In 1982 he relocated to the Pasqua South Oral Health Clinic in Regina; and shortly thereafter, became a leader in the newly emerging field of implant dentistry. Throughout his career, Dick devoted himself fully and passionately to the oral health and general well being of those who placed him in their trust. He always gave his best effort to each patient, and he always respected and acknowledged the efforts of those who did likewise as part of the dental health care team. His proud legacy of empathy and excellence is carried forward by all who benefited from his experience, guidance, and passion for dentistry. To many others, he was known as...Dick. Prior to his career in dentistry, Dick was a conservation officer and a life long lover of nature and all its beauty. He was an avid hunter, fisher, and outdoorsman. He was also a skilled and entertaining storyteller, and he loved to share the details of his many adventures in wild situations and places. One of many highlights was a 1996 voyage to Africa, where he fulfilled his dream of going on safari. Since 1988, his world revolved around the farm,? a place where the pace of life was set by the movement of the sun. There, he found peace and happiness in the company of the trees and wildlife, in his hobbies, in his family, friends and pets, and in the simple stillness of solitude. There was truly nowhere else on earth that he would rather be, and at the time of his passing he stood on the threshold of enjoying this place full time. May he remain there for ever more. As a husband, father and grandfather, Dick was a gentle and loving man. His family meant the world to him and he meant the world to us. The days we spent together at the farm, on a fishing trip or just sitting around a camp fire and being together were the greatest days of his and our life. Spencer, his grandson, was a pride and joy for Dick and he so looked forward to teaching him the wonders nature provides, the art of shooting a BB gun and driving a little tractor. Dick leaves us with a hurting heart and a treasure of memories. A Celebration of his life will be held at the Delta Regina Hotel, 1919 Saskatchewan Drive, Regina, SK, on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to come early as parking will be at a premium.
