Obituary of Verna Madeline Flegel

Verna, of Regina, SK, died peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the age of 89. Surrounded by her loving family and comforted by her faith, Verna spent her last days saying goodbye to her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to tell them she loved them. Verna was a strong woman who lived a full life. She is lovingly remembered as a wonderful mom, grandma and friend. Her strong-will, independence and sharpness were with her right till the end, often giving her family a chuckle as she had no trouble expressing exactly what she wanted and needed. Her strength, recipes and ability to bring her family together live on in those who are left to remember her including her sister Laura; sister-in-law Jean Thue; sons Richard (Joanne), Bill (Kendra) and Kenny (Brenda); daughters Donna (Larry) Olain, Jennifer (Don) Johnson; daughter-in-law Joan; grandchildren Tara (Rob), Michael (Sheri), Lindsay (Jeff), Mark (Mona), Caitlin (Alex), Aaron, Stephanie (Ian), Michael, Jens and Bria; and great-grandchildren Clive, Luke, Alivia, Jaden, Ellis, Issac and Zara. She is joined in heaven by her first husband Al Flegel; second husband Al Wagar; son Stewart Flegel; and great-grandson Emerson Olain. Born on June 17, 1928 near Langham to Jens and Bertha Thue, Verna was the youngest of seven. On May 13, 1950 Verna married Al Flegel and began their own family shortly thereafter.  Verna and Al grew their family to six children as they followed Al's teaching career from Minton to Ituna, Humboldt and finally Regina, SK. After losing her first husband Al in 1990 and her beloved son Stewart in 1999, Verna found love and companionship with Al Wager, marrying in 2001. Together they enjoyed travelling, evenings out for dinner and going to the casino. After her second husband passed, Verna continued to have an active social life with the wonderful friends in her building and at the mall. She also enjoyed family meals and shopping trips to the United States with her children. She could regularly be found at church, visiting with her coffee group in the food court of Southland mall or catching up with family on the phone. To the end, Verna always made time for her family, cherishing the time she had. She is loved and missed as she joins her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. A Funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held at Christ the King Roman Catholic Parish, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, SK, on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations are very much appreciated and may be made in Verna's name to the Salvation Army, 2240 13th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 3M7.
