Obituary of Florence Eileen Gushulak

FLORENCE FLO? E. GUSHULAK Florence departed peacefully on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 after a long period of slowly failing health. Mom was born to Elmer and Helene (Skjerven) Grobell on Boxing Day, 1924 in Kandahar, Saskatchewan. She married Michael Gushulak May 1, 1951. They started out together in Foam Lake and then moved to Melfort in 1955. Regina became their home in 1970. Predeceased by her husband in 2007 after 55 years of marriage, Florence is survived by her two sons, Brian (Marilynn) and Brent (Diane), one very special granddaughter Emma, sisters Sally (Eddie) and Wilma, brothers Cliff (Kaye) and Maynard. Mother always had time for people and was universally liked by all who met her. As her sons grew she occupied herself with her garden which became a passion. A green gardener before the term became popular she composted and avoided chemicals for her vegetables. Active and energetic into her 80s her health began to fail in 2006 and she slowly lost her independence. However she continued to exceed the expectations and statistics of her illnesses. A Celebration of Florences life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Kuzmicz and colleagues at the Family Medicine Unit for their dedicated care and attention, Dr. George Garbe and colleagues for managing her complex heart condition and the nurses and staff of the Regina General Hospital for their care during her many admissions. Thanks are also offered to Royal Oaks Care Home and the Montmartre Integrated Health Center where she spent her last months.
