Obituary of Edna May Forbes

EDNA MAY FORBES 1917 - 2011 Our delightful Edna died peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2011 in Regina, SK at Dove House which had been her home for the past several years. She was predeceased by her parents Reg and Daisy Smith, her husband Murray, and his sister Atholl. She is survived by her brother Roy Smith (Janet), their four children Susan (Terry Yuzik) and their children Adam and Alex, Patricia Smith (Michael Tyrrell), Douglas and David (Denise Deby) and their children Ben and Robbie. She very much enjoyed her nieces, nephews and god children who found her such fun to be with. Edna was an active member of the community who participated in numerous social, cultural, charitable and recreational activities. She possessed a large circle of friends being rather famous as a splendid hostess. Her grace and keen sense of humour always demonstrated at social events where she lit up the room with her presence, served her well even through illness in her later years. Ednas cultural interests included art and music. She enjoyed popular and classical music and was a lover of opera. For many years she and a group of friends attended yearly productions of the famous Metropolitan Opera in Minneapolis. Her strong commitment to St. Pauls Anglican Cathedral included being the long time convenor of the Altar Guild. She also served a term as Rectors Warden and was honoured with a special award by the congregation for her dedicated service. The Forbes spent many wonderful summers at their cottage at Lake Kenosee. As well, they travelled extensively and fearlessly in their classic blue Chrysler Imperial towing a shining Airstream trailer throughout Canada and the United States. The family wish to acknowledge Dr. J. Whittick and the Dove House staff for their excellent care of Edna. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing to make a donation in Ednas memory may do so to the Building in Faith Fund, St. Pauls Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R2 or to a charity of their choice. A Service to celebrate Ednas life will be held at St. Paulss Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre Street on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with the Very Rev. Mike Sinclair officiating.
