Obituary of Joan Valentina Mitchell
MITCHELL, Joan
(née Batycki)
Joan, late of Lumsden, SK, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the age of 84 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Pauline; husband Roy; sisters, Rose and Caroline; and brother Stan. Joan is survived and lovingly missed by her son Joe (Darnell) and daughter Patti. A lab tech by training, Joan worked at St. Michael’s Retreat House and Homecare Services for a number of years, before returning to work as a lab tech in the Histology department at Prairie Diagnostic Services. Mom’s interests included gardening, volunteer work, and music. She frequently gave her time to events at St. Peter’s Parish and made countless crafts and baked goods to sell at the Snowflake Bazaar. Mom canvassed door-to-door for the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s annual fund-raiser for over 25 years. She sang in the church choir and played piano by ear for many years, often entertaining the residents at the Lumsden Manor and Heritage Home. Mom’s yard was a great source of pride, and she freely shared the bounty of her large garden with others. She was known for her beautifully decorated baking and generosity, and Mom’s treats will be dearly missed by all. Another love of hers was anything furry: cats, dogs, rabbits, even the local deer, and she took care of every one. At Joan’s request, no Funeral Mass will be held. Interment will take place at a later date in the Lumsden Cemetery. Family and friends so wishing may make a donation, in memoriam, to the Regina Humane Society, Box 3143, Regina, SK S4P 3G7.
