MILLER, William Ronald “Ron”

It is with great sadness that Ron’s family announces his passing. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the age of 83. Ron was born in Riverhurst, SK on December 31, 1934. He was predeceased by his wife Yvonne of 56 years; parents, James and Florence Miller; father-in-law and mother-in-law Doug and Francis Caldwell; and brother-in-law Jack Riendeau. Ron is survived by his son Darren (Wanda) Miller; daughters, Wendy (Wayne) McKinnon, and Dawn (Alton) Boychuk; ten grandchildren, Erin (Vinny) Goodfellow, Derek (Jill) Back, Jason (Jenn) Miller, Troy (Rikki) Miller, Jessica (Travis) McKinnon-Fehler, Kayla McKinnon, Cole Boychuk, Tristan McKinnon, Reed Boychuk, and Carter Boychuk; nine great grandchildren, Nessa, Josie, Olivia, Owen, Benson, Joey, Toban, Noah, and Spencer; brother Barry (Eileen) Miller; sister Myrna (Bruce) Pearson; sister-in-law Verna Riendeau; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ron grew up and took his schooling in Rivershurst, SK. He married Yvonne Caldwell on October 18, 1957. Ron worked for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool for 36 years and the Co-operators for several years. Ron’s career took them to Gaines and then Hughton where their three children were born in neighbouring Elrose. In 1969, the family moved to Strasbourg where they raised their children and resided for the next 45 years. Ron and Yvonne moved to Regina in 2014. Ron was active in curling, baseball, the Strasbourg Lions Club, Lions International, Lions Eye Bank, Sask. Hockey, minor hockey, minor baseball, Strasbourg town council, the district health board, and Tourism Saskatchewan. Ron was elected to the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000. He was an avid fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Toronto Blue Jays. Ron’s greatest love was for his children and grandchildren. He could be found just about anywhere in Saskatchewan and beyond, following his grandchildren to some type of activity. We loved him dearly and he will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a donation in Ron’s memory can donate to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan, 1231 8th Street East, Saskatoon, SK S7H 0S5.
