Obituary of Adam Peter Schwartz

Adam passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at age 92 years, after a brief and unexpected illness. He was predeceased by his father Adam and mother Marie (Schiissler); his brother Peter, Peter’s wife Marie (Schmidt); his sister Anne Mengel; and sister-in-law Martha Dahlman. Adam is survived by his wife Matilda (Tillie); brothers-in-law, Harold Mengel and Erwin Dahlman; son Glenn (Celeste); and daughters, Gail (Dale) Montgomery and Cheryl (Ron) Sprung; Glenn’s children, Carla (Tyler Lukiwski), Darren (Susan Spruston), and Laura (Brett) Matlock; Gail’s children, Colin (Lisa) and Kristin (Riley) Agopsowicz; and Cheryl’s children, Nathan and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Justin and Cameron Schwartz, Charlotte, Annabelle, and Louisa Matlock, Carson and Reid Montgomery, Camdyn Agopsowicz; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Adam was born just west of Gravelbourg, on December 15, 1925 and came to Regina with his family in 1935. He attended country school to grade 3, St. Joseph school in Regina, and Campion and Balfour high schools. He married Tillie in 1947 and they spent seventy years together.
Adam began a career in auto body repair at a young age, progressing to body shop manager at Saskatchewan Motors Ltd. In 1964, he and his mechanic friend, Bob Allardyce, started A&B Autobody and Service. Bob retired from the business in 1986. Adam carried on until he sold the business to foreman, Terry Thompson, in 1995. In his retirement, Adam’s great pleasures were attending family gatherings and enjoying the activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Adam and Tillie also enjoyed their annual three month sojourns in Mesa for about 15 years until 2005.
Adam and Tillie enjoyed traveling. Adam earned several trips to the Caribbean and Hawaii through business. They attended many bowling tournaments by motorhome with their friends. They also traveled to Germany and the Canary Islands on a few occasions to visit Tillie’s relatives.
In his younger days, Adam was active in many sports and coached a women’s softball team. He was among the top 10-pin bowlers in the city, played a mean game of golf, played accordion, and enjoyed dancing, ice fishing, and summer fishing trips in the north. Through these activities, he made a large group of lifelong friends. He was also a Roughrider season ticket holder for almost 50 years and enjoyed watching the Blue Jays on TV whenever possible.
Adam was a member, board member, and executive member of many organizations, including the Auto Body Association of Regina, Executive Association of Regina, the Victoria Club, and the St. Mary’s Credit Union.
Adam was a friendly, kind, and generous person. In his memory do a good deed for someone.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 2026 Winnipeg Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. No flowers please.
