Obituary of Gwen Selina Harrison

With sadness the family announces the passing of their mother, grandmother and friend, Gwendoline Selina Harrison, on May 20, 2018.  She was born Nov. 25, 1925 in Winnipeg, MB, the 4th of 5 girls.  She began her working life as a teacher in a one-room school near Swan River, MB.  While working in Winnipeg at the end of WWII she met W/O Ken Harrison.  They were married in 1946 and moved to Regina where they raised their family.  Gwen’s Regina employment included various secretarial and teaching positions notably as the business teacher at St. Chad’s Girls’ School and finally as legal secretary to Mr. J. Moss (Q.C.).  Wherever she lived or worked, Gwen enjoyed talking with and helping others; she always said “hello”.  Gwen was a founding member of Zion United Church, Regina, and volunteered with church boards, CGIT, the Parent Association of the Lion’s Band, and the Plains Hospital.  She loved “cottage life” and sought the sun even into her last days.

Gwen is survived by her children Allen (Susan Krznar) of Regina and Valerie (Barry) Mitschke of Lumsden, granddaughters Marcia (François Boire) and Tara Mitschke, special nephew Dale Christie (Victoria BC), sister-in-law Marge Harrison, and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, Ellen and Arthur, and all her sisters and their husbands: Marjorie (Marg) and Bob Fraser (Winnipeg), Elizabeth (Betty) and Rob Cotton (Thunder Bay), Lucie (Mae) and Sid Dempsey (Thunder Bay), Noelle and Walt Matthews (London, Ont); brother-in-law Cliff Harrison (Regina), sister-in-law Edith and husband Vernon (Bud) Mooney (Nipawin, Sk).
