Obituary of Opal Mercedes Wilkie
Opal passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Regina Lutheran Home. The daughter of Frankie and Peter Pedersen, she was born on her parents’ farm on October 7, 1922. Opal attended Hendrickson and Milestone school. In 1942, after attending Success Business College, Opal worked for the Department of Agriculture. She also worked at the Milestone School Unit Office, which she enjoyed and valued the friendships of her peers. Opal married Charles “Chuck” Wilkie on January 25, 1947. The following year, they moved to the farm, north of Milestone, where they resided for 27 years. In 1974, they moved to Milestone to care for her parents. Opal was a kind and gentle soul, and totally devoted to her family. She cared for Chuck for many years as his health declined. Opal was very artistic, creating paintings, beautiful cross stitch, and other crafts. Opal was predeceased by her husband Chuck in 2009; brothers, Jessie, Earl (Marg), and Woodrow (Marion). She is survived by sons, Brian (Sandra) and their children, Heather (Marty), Lisa, and Steve (Kristin), Grant (Linda) and their children, Angela (Eliaja), Aaron (Natasha), Trina (Sam), Jim (Pam) and their children, Joey (Farrell), Sarah (Dustin); sixteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Irene Pedersen; as well as many nieces and nephews. Opal’s family wishes to thank Autumn Care Home, Parkside Extendicare, and Regina Lutheran Home, for their kindness and excellent care of Opal. At Opal’s request, there will not be a funeral. Those wishing to make a donation in Opal’s memory, may do so to a charity of choice.
