Obituary of John Alberic Dechief

JOHN ALBERIC DECHIEF 1916 - 2012 John Dechief passed away at Regina, SK on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the age of 95 years. John was born on a farm near Handsworth, SK and received his early education in Forget, SK. He attended Campion College in Regina and later the University of Saskatchewan where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy in 1938. John spent five years overseas with the Canadian Army before returning to university where he graduated in law in 1948. He was admitted to the Saskatchewan bar one year later. For five years, John was employed by Canada Permanent Trust Company, and then entered the law firm of Boyce and Dechief in Regina. During his private practice, he served as acting magistrate in Regina and district. He lectured on business law, at the then Regina Campus, and was the originator of the adult education series, Law For Laymen. Later, he was appointed solicitor for the PFRA, from where he retired in 1975. John was predeceased by his father, Oscar Ghislain Dechief in 1946; his mother, Aline Rosine (Lechantre) Dechief in 1967; wife Elizabeth (Beth) in 2009; sister Mary in 2008; and brothers Henry in 2000 and Louis in 1923. John is survived by his son Greg; his sisters, Flore Couture, Helene Dechief and Lorette (Romeo) Martin; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Dechief, Doris Parker and Jean Marston; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff at William Albert House for their loving and professional care. Many thanks to the Walkers and the Greenhows for their friendship and support to both Beth and John throughout the years. The Funeral Mass will be held at in St. Anne R.C. Church, 1701 Cowan Crescent, Regina, SK, on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Gary Lindenbach presiding. Cremation. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Flowers gratefully declined.
