Obituary of Frederick Theodore Wihak

WIHAK Frederick Theodore Wihak completed his life peacefully on January 2, 2012 at age 89. Fred was born April 1, 1922 in Melville, Saskatchewan, where he excelled in academics and athletics. He was a Spitfire pilot in the RCAF during the Second World War, serving in North Africa and Europe. After graduating from the University of Alberta, he was a popular dentist in Regina for over forty years, holding positions in the provincial, national and international dental colleges. He contributed to his community as Chair of the Board of Regina Catholic Schools, and at his passing he was the longest serving Rotarian in Saskatchewan. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed squash, curling, swimming, cross country skiing, biking, reading, playing bridge, and bird-watching. Fred had a wide-ranging curiosity about the world and about life. He enjoyed travelling and visited every continent but Antarctica. Freddie loved being outside on a typical Saskatchewan day? epitomized by blue skies and warm sunshine. Fred was devoted to his family. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Stephen; his parents-in-law Grace and Frank McDonnell; his sister Pauline and his brothers Bill, Al, Joe and Ernie; sisters-in-law Ruth and Kathy Wihak, Dorothy Martyn and Ann Stipkala; brother-in-law Bill Martyn; and his nephews Christopher Wihak and Alan Martyn. Fred is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Allie; their seven children Laurie (Allan Collins), Christine, Steve (Lorraine), Marian (Ken Gass), Gini (Bruce Dalgas), Mark (Vanda Schmockel), and Jordy (Sandi Cameron); grandchildren Jesse and David Collins, Sally (Ryan Boyd), Lauren, Katie, and Adam Wihak, Dylan and Marae Dalgas; great-granddaughter Charlotte Boyd; sisters-in-law Lottie Wihak and Eileen Hodges, brother-in-law, Ed Stipkala and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. Fred lived a very full and generous life and graced the lives of all who knew him. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Christ the King R.C. Church, 3239 Garnet Street, followed by a reception in the church hall. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Regina Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
