Obituary of Beverley Diane Burrows
Beverley passed away on Saturday June 30, 2018, at the age of 73, after a short and very private battle with cancer. Never wanting to be a burden on others, she fought to the end with courage and determination. Born in Moose Jaw and raised in Mossbank, Beverley attended the University of Saskatchewan. Upon graduating with a B. Ed. she was appointed Music Director of Thom Collegiate in Regina. Thus began a happy and rewarding career that would also encompass teaching music at Scott, Campbell and Usher Collegiate, in addition to numerous elementary schools. She subsequently taught English and had a special fondness for Balfour Collegiate where she spent her last 15 years before retirement. She felt privileged for the opportunity to share her love of music and English with the hundreds of students who touched her life. They reaffirmed her belief that “To Reach….to Touch….to Teach” is definitely a most worthy profession. Along the way, she was co-recipient of a Hilroy Fellowship for innovative teaching and completed a B.A. and Certified Program in Public Relations. Her teaching was enriched by experiences learned outside the classroom. Early in her career she free-lanced for C.B.C. radio and produced and directed shows at the Saskatchewan Centre of the Arts for the Regina Multicultural Folk Arts Council. She sang with the Hewettes, the Conservatory Choir and Knox Metropolitan Church Choir. Beverley wrote the script for the national C.B.C. coverage of the opening of the Centre of the Arts. She also served on the executive of the Teachers Association. She was a wonderful pianist and most recently could be found playing at the Government House Teas. Beverley was proud of her small town upbringing and loved prairie people and Saskatchewan skies. She spent many retirement hours in her yard at #7. She loved visiting over a cup of coffee and talking politics and other current news items. She had a keen interest in history, the Royal family, the Armed Forces and Veterans which made her trip to Vimy Ridge and Juno Beach so memorable. Beverley was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Peggy. She will always be remembered by her brother Brian (Dianne). No one could be prouder than she was of her two nephews and their children. She loved them dearly; Steve and his daughter Emma, Darren (Janet) and their children Nathaniel and Hannah will miss their Auntie Beverley; as well as extended family which includes special cousins. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and other staff on Unit 3D and the Allen Blair Cancer Clinic in the Pasqua Hospital. Brian would particularly like to thank the Palliative Care Unit for their gentle care, compassion and kindness.
