Florence “Evelyn” Mae Hay, age 94 of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2018 with her daughters Trish and Pam near her side. A Celebration of Life for Evelyn will take place at Westminster United Church, 3025 13th Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Evelyn is survived by her children Greg Hay (Lyn) of Eagle Bay, BC, Trish Hay (Dean Perry) of Regina, SK, and Pam Matheson of Regina SK; sister-in-law Dorothy Dryden (née Hay); grandchildren, Michaela Perry (Shaun Amos) and Thomas Perry (Amanda Magotiaux); great-grandchild Micah Amos; and many loved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Alex in 1995; her parents, Leon and Annie Blezard; sister Ina Light (Norm); brothers Willie Blezard (Verna) and Artie Blezard (Margaret); and Brothers/Sisters-in-law, Jim and Fran Hay and Keith Dryden. Evelyn was born on Dec 2, 1923 in Orangeville, ON, while her mother was visiting relatives there. She was raised on the farm north of Sceptre, SK and she attended elementary and high school in Sceptre. In 1941, Evelyn moved to Winnipeg, MB to attend business school and upon graduation, moved to Regina to begin her career at Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. She met her husband Alex at the Wheat Pool and they married in 1949. Evelyn then left the workforce to stay home and begin to raise their family. In 1962, she decided to return to work at the Wheat Pool and continued there until her retirement in 1985. Evelyn and Alex enjoyed camping and took the family on many wonderful vacations throughout Canada and also to California several times to visit Alex’s brother and his family and to visit Disneyland. The family also owned a cottage at Buena Vista on Last Mountain Lake and spent many days during the summers with family and friends for over 50 years. Until just this last week, Evelyn continued to visit the cottage with daughters Pam and Trish, and spent the days relaxing on the deck reading a book and enjoying the outdoors while overlooking the lake. Evelyn was an active member of the Westminster United Church for over 50 years, where as a member of the Anniversary Unit hosted many teas, bake sales, and rummage sales to raise funds for the church and community. She was also a member of the Canadian Royal Purple Society and served on its board and as Honoured Royal Lady for a number of years. Evelyn was a fantastic cook, known for her baking of pies and loaves, which could be found at many church events. She enjoyed knitting for all the family and had continued to knit baby bonnets for premature babies in the local hospitals. Evelyn was very independent and lived in the family home on McTavish Street until 2013, then moved to her own apartment, until finally moving in 2016 to the Renaissance Retirement Home. Evelyn had many friends from her years at the Wheat Pool and continued to meet with a group of friends every other week for a great number of years. She also has many friends within the Westminster United Church community. Evelyn will be fondly remembered as a loving, kind and outgoing individual and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to a charity of choice.
