Obituary of Evelyn Norine Showell

EVELYN NORINE SHOWELL Norine passed away peacefully in the early hours of Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home in Regina at the age of 75 years. Predeceased by her parents and elder brother, Vern, she is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Frank; younger brother, Glen; nieces Elin, Samantha, and Tara; nephews Brian, Wayne and Glenn, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Norine was born in Regina and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1958. She taught for 29 years in the Regina Public School System at many schools, ending at Stewart Russel. She had a deep interest in the arts and was a founding supporter of the MacKenzie Art Gallery. For many years she and Frank supported the Globe Theatre and the Regina Symphony Orchestra as well as the Canadian Club of Regina. Norine attended Westminster United Church for most of her life and was a faithful fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. She had a wonderful sense of style and never missed a fashion show. Norine loved travelling and, before her marriage enjoyed trips to Europe, including Russia and also Mexico, Guatemala and Arctic Red River. After marrying Frank the couple visited England frequently to see family and had trips to Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Morocco, Germany, Greece, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, Barbados, Antigua, St. Lucia and travelled extensively within North America. Norine was a very thoughtful, kind and generous person. Alzheimers first began to affect Norine in about 2006 and, as the disease progressed it became difficult to care for her. She was admitted to Santa Maria in the spring of 2009. The family would like to thank the staff of the second floor at Santa Maria for their kindness and care over the last two years and nine months. A Service to Celebrate Norines Life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave, Regina, SK on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301-2550-12th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 3X1.
