Obituary of Moira Conley

MOIRA CONLEY 1920 - 2011 Moira Conley passed away at Parkside Extendicare on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Moira is predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Bill; her brother Eric and his wife Margaret; and her sister Peggy. Moira is survived by her three children and their families; her sister, Hazel (John Wolowicz); and many nieces and nephews. Moira was born in Northallerton, England in 1920. She met Bill, while he was stationed in England during WWII. Bill and Moira were married in England in November 1943 and Moira came to Canada as a new war bride. One of Moiras favourite stories is the day she completed her journey from England. She arrived in Winnipeg on the train to be met by Bills family, who had travelled from Humboldt, SK to pick Moira up. Bill was still in England fighting in the War. As she got off the train, the loudspeakers announced the War is Over?. Can you imagine how happy she was to know that her new husband would soon be joining her in her new home? Moira adopted her new homeland with vigour. She loved the wide expanses and the beautiful sunsets. She and Bill travelled all over western Canada both before they had children and after. She loved to explore new places, taking in all of the sights that she could. Her dream was to see the world. She didnt get to all of the places that she wanted to see, but she and Bill travelled to many places. Most of Moiras career was in jewellery sales. She retired from sales as Assistant Manager of Mappins Jewellery in the Cornwall Centre. Moiras vibrant personality and love of jewellery took her to top sales for the organization many times and earned her trips to exotic places that she and Bill enjoyed together. Before she retired and certainly after, she and Bill spent many wonderful times together enjoying their son, Ralphs cottage at the lake. Together they gardened, cooked for themselves and the family and visited with neighbours in the area. One fond memory is from the first cottage, which was down in the ravine. Bill and Moira were determined to create a spot where they had a view of the lake while having an evening glass of wine. They not only cleared a path through the brush to the top of the hill but built a little platform that would accommodate two lawn chairs and a small table. Bill and Moira had three children: Sharon (Mario de Santis), Neil (Carol), and Ralph (Sandy Tufts); five grandchildren: James, Eric, Christopher, Mathew and Sean; and six great grandchildren. She doted on her family and shared with them her love of music, food and books. Each of us holds dear all of our wonderful memories or time spent with her collectively and individually and of course those scones that we all loved. Moira requested just a small family service.
