Obituary of Emilie Charlotte Martin

Martin, Emilie Charlotte (nee Weir) It is with great sadness, particularly at this blessed time of the year, that we announce the death of our much loved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother who died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday December 18, 2011. Our Mother and Nana was an elegant, loving and generous person to all who knew her. At this time of year she will be missed for her lovingly decorated Christmas cookies, the traditional Plum Pudding, the Christmas Cake liberally dosed in rum, the annual Christmas parties, and her warmth and hospitality. Her legacy of love lives on in the lives of her daughter Winna Martin, son David Martin (Linda), grandson Jack E. Jewett, granddaughter Emilie Jewett-Curley (Michael Curley), and her beloved great-grandchildren, Andrew and Addison Curley. She will also be greatly missed by her dear friend, Lindsay Blacker (Philip) who she looked on as another daughter. Emilie was predeceased by her best friend and loving husband, Edward who fondly referred to her as his "pretty lady", a title she richly deserved. Emilie was born in 1917 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and moved with her parents to St. John's, Newfoundland as an infant. She met and married the love of her life, Edward in St. John's in 1944. Edward had a varied career but it was his time in the RCMP that afforded her considerable travel opportunities which culminated in retirement in Regina. Emilie was active in various charitable activities particularly within her parish of St. Paul's Cathedral. For the last two years of her life she resided at Santa Maria Senior Citizen's Home in Regina, Saskatchewan. The family would like to extend a special thank you for the nursing care and all the support of the staff on the fourth floor of Santa Maria. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre Street, Regina on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. A private Interment will be held at a later date. Donations in Emilie's memory can be sent to the Building in Faith fund at St. Paul's Cathedral. Arrangements are being handled by Speer's Funeral & Cremation Services of Regina.
