Obituary of Nicholas Sakires

NICHOLAS GIB? SAKIRES Nick, beloved husband of 60 years to Phyllis; father to Wayne (Diane), Denny (Darlene); grandfather to Robbie (Tasha and Cassidy), Jesse (Shelley), Casey (Sara); close friend Nick Stirr; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 17, 2013. Nick and Phyllis celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on August 16, 2012, with all the family attending. Nick served for over 50 years in the oil and gas industry at Rileys in Regina, Calgary and Edmonton since his start with Tidewater Oil in 1952. Nick and Phyllis loved the Roughriders and were season ticket holders for 55 years. He enjoyed jazz and blues music and was an avid golfer. Nick coached his sons and many friends baseball teams from Little League in Regina to Senior Ball in Calgary and High River. Prayers will be held at St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church, 1770 St. John Street, Regina, SK on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. John Maerean presiding. Interment will follow at Regina Cemetery. Everyone will miss Nicks gregarious nature and big smile.
