Obituary of William Garnet Campbell

January 11, 1927 December 30, 2011 The world of Canadian sports has lost a Legend. William Garnet Campbell, famous Little General? of the Campbell Curling Clan of Avonlea, Saskatchewan, died peacefully on December 30th, 2012 in his home in Okotoks, Alberta, 12 days before his 85th birthday. With 10 Brier appearances and Saskatchewan's first title win in 1955, two Canadian Mixed Championship appearances, four Canadian Western Masters Championships titles, winner of 6 car spiels, Sask Curling Hall of Fame and Canadian Curling Hall of Fame member help contribute to some of his curling highlights. Garnet loved to compete and excel at sport. He later spent winters with his wife DeVerne in their home in Peoria, Arizona perfecting his golf game. At age 80 he finally was able to score his age. He was a family man who took great pride in his grandchildren and loved to play games and watch their involvement in sport. He was an amazing competitor who loved to have fun. Dad was a humble winner whose undying love of sport and drive for perfection made him a champion at everything he did. Your life would have been a little bit better if you were lucky enough to have known him. The world is a better place because of him he will be greatly missed! Garnet Campbell is survived by his wife DeVerne of 47 years; his daughter Cassandra; son Vern (Tammy); and grandchildren Burjess, Kiana, & Ali. He is also survived by three siblings, brothers Lloyd (Wilma), 97 of Regina, Gordon, 86 of Avonlea, and sister Margaret (Archie) Smith of Boulder, Colorado; in addition to 20 nieces & nephews. Garnet was predeceased by his parents, A.N. (Sandy) Campbell and Eva Miller Campbell; his eldest sister, Verna (Bill) Evans, and brothers Glen (Fern), and Donald (Grace). Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday April 29, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in Queensbury Convention Centre, 1700 Elphinstone Street, Regina, SK. Flowers most gratefully declined.
