Obituary of Vernard Raymond Apperley

VERNARD APPERLEY

Vern, of Regina, passed away peacefully, at Parkside Extendicare with family by his side on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the age of 87. He will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by his wife Olga (Deneka); his eight children, Cheryl Carson, Raymond (Donna), Darrell (Liuba), Darren (Terri), Barry (Jessica), Donna, Cameron (Ashley) and Colleen (Darcey) Smith; his grandchildren, Natasha, Kyle (Sara), Carissa (Michael), Ryan (Jayda), Sara (Eric), Taylor, Ryley, wee Scott, Abigail (Matthew), Ella, Maggie, Ethan, Micoh, Amira and Harlowe; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Emma, Grace, Nyxon, Nora and Finley; his sister Mildred; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his father Raymond at the age of 6 and his mother, Helga (Holm), at the age of 12.  He also was predeceased by his siblings, Raymond, Eldeen, Rudy and Clara; son-in-law Scotty; father-in-law, Matthew; mother-in-law, Polly; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Vern was born on June 22, 1931 in Pelly, Saskatchewan. He married the love of his life, Olga, on July 26, 1958 and they got to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary before he passed. They first lived in Yorkton and Calgary and then settled in Regina in 1961. He began working for Ipsco in 1961 and retired from there in 1991. He was a hardworking man who provided very well for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbour and friend. He was a generous man who would give you the shirt off his back. He had all the time in the world for anyone who wanted to visit. Coffee with Vern and Olga was something that many, many family and friends got to share over his life. In 2006 Vern and Olga made a new home at Benson Manor. There they made new friends to visit with and he enjoyed game nights.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Westminster United Church, 3025 13th Avenue, Regina on Friday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m. with  Darrell Reine officiating.

Our family would like to send our sincere thank you and appreciation to all the staff of Parkside Extendicare, Main Wing, for their amazing care and compassion towards our dad. We always knew that when we were unable to be with him, he was getting the best of care and his coffee cup was full. We would also like to extend a special thank you to his roommates, Chris, Roy and Russell.
