Obituary of Gladys Elinor Tweed

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mom, Gladys, on August 25, 2018, at the age of 99.  Mom was predeceased by her husband Keith, parents Hopkin and Lilian Mills, brother Ivor Mills and sister Dilys Renaerts. Gladys is lovingly remembered and will be missed by her children, Arleen Dent, Norma (Ron) Benallack, Cheryl (Warren) Rowley, Judy (Bill) Burrell, Valerie (Gary) Hoffman, Gord (Teena) Tweed, grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Gladys was born September 14, 1918, on the family farm in Colonsay, Sk. Her mother passed away in June 1919 from influenza leaving Gladys at nine months of age, sister, Dilys a year older and brother Ivor at three and half years of age.  Her Dad, Hopkin raised the three children. Mom taught school for many years before taking time off to raise her children. She resumed her career and taught until she was sixty-five and was many students’ favorite teacher. Her first school was in the small town of Rutland, not far from where she met Keith.  She finished her career in Regina. Keith and Gladys were married for sixty-five years before Dad’s passing in March of 2007 at the age of ninety years. Mom loved life, people, music and laughter.  She was always interested in what her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren were doing and was proud of all. Family meant the world to Mom and Dad. Mom had many great friends and enjoyed many hours of fun. Mom appreciated help from Home Care to maintain an independent lifestyle. The family thanks the staff at College Park who contributed so much to Mom’s life and made her feel it was “home”. A special thanks to Dr. Tomi Mitchell for the extra care given to Mom over the years. A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
