Obituary of Maurice Peter Metz

Maurice Peter Metz died peacefully at the age of 93, on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the Pasqua Hospital.  He will be greatly missed by his sons, Greg (Wanda) of Wilcox and their children Krista and Nicolas, Rob (Linda) of Burnaby and their children Mary and Kathrine, Tom (Jodi) of Regina and their children Cassie, Brenna, and Anica, and John (Terri) of Moose Jaw and their children Brittney (Jesse and children Tyli and Zarah), Veronica, Maurissa, Skylar, and Saxton; and Maurice’s sister Mildred Lentz of Kamloops. There to meet him at the gates of Paradise will be his wife Mary Veronica “Vonnie;” parents Moritz “Moy” and Mary Louise “Lily;” sisters Catherine, Colette, Marjorie, Lucille, Evelyn, Mary and Joan; along with his grandsons Gary, Joseph and Paul.  Dad was proud to be both a farmer and a Hound. He attended Notre Dame from grade one to twelve and then while still at Notre Dame completed a bachelor’s degree through the University of Ottawa.  Dad was an avid athlete active in hockey, baseball and curling; there were many championships, but dad was proudest of the Provincial Championship hockey team, the Wilcox CO-OPs.  After university dad worked in the Cement Construction business eventually having his own company. Dad travelled East to work on the Saint Lawrence Sea Way.  He returned to Saskatchewan and his life’s passion of farming.  In 1959 Dad, married his one great love Vonnie and they built a wonderful life in Wilcox.  Dad was always active in the community spending time on many local boards and terms on town council; was a member and president on the Recreation Board, Board of Trade, Parish Council, Separate School Board, and Credit Union.  Dad enjoyed coaching minor hockey and baseball especially his sons teams.  Mom loved to square dance, so dad did too.  Mom and Dad spent their last years together here in Regina at the Bentley.  After mom passed away three years ago dad moved to Coteau Range Manor in Avonlea, then to Queen Victoria Estates in Regina and lastly Parkview Villa for a very short visit.  We would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff on Pasqua 3D Unit and the Palliative Care Unit for making Dad’s last days so comfortable. Prayers for Maurice will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina SK, on Tuesday September 25, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Martin de Porres Church, 4720 Castle Road, Regina SK on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow.

“Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord.  See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.” James 5:7 – “For God so loved the world he gave His only Son, and whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.
