Obituary of Pauline Elsie Tumac

We are saddened to announce the passing of TUMAC, Pauline Elsie (née Sakundiak), age 84, of Regina, SK, on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Regina Pioneer Village. She was born on November 30, 1933 to Anne and Mike Sakundiak in Wimmer, SK. Pauline attended Wimmer School and helped out on the family farm until she married Patrick Tumak on July 7, 1951 after meeting at a local dance. They lived in Margo and Wimmer until they finally settled in Regina, where Pat started permanent work with Westeel Rosco. They had five children, Elizabeth, Barry, Glenn, Theodore, and Angela. Pauline and her family lived on Winnipeg Street and later Garnet Street in North Central Regina for 40 years.

Pauline worked primarily as a homemaker, but also held various cleaning positions with the General Hospital, Luther College, and Modern Building Cleaning. She was a busy gardener and always had a full cold cellar of various fruits, pickles, and vegetables. Pauline was also a great cook, who spent countless hours laboring over various homemade foods, including canning her garden, making pies from the fruit trees, soups, perogies, bread, pancakes on Tuesdays, homemade donuts on Friday nights, and cabbage rolls. Family all looked forward to her Ukrainian Christmas Eve supper.

After Patrick’s sudden passing in 1989, Pauline devoted her time to family, St. Andrews United Church, and helping out various friends and neighbors. She loved to walk and travel and earned her drivers license at the age of 59 years. She traveled to various destinations with her church groups and friends. Highlights included visiting Hawaii, The Holy Land, the Panama Canal, New Orleans, and various bus tours in and around historic Saskatchewan.

Pauline is survived by her children, Barry Tumac, Glenn Tumac, Theodore (Alison) Tumac, and Angela Tumac (Mario); two grandchildren, Alexandra Tumac, and Brayden Tumac; two brothers, Orest (Darlene) Sakundiak and Melvin Sakundiak; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Anne Sakundiak; her husband Patrick Tumak; her daughter Elizabeth Mira-Sanchez; her son-in-law Garth Radons; and her daughter-in-law Wanda Nesbitt.
