I’ve posted this to Facebook, but it case some family members don’t have it I thought I would share the message again here.
For Kayla’s family (by blood or by friendship): I had the pleasure of orientating Kayla in the ICU. She was my first orientee and I couldn’t have been luckier. Besides being a wonderful and caring nurse I will remember her for having the most infectious laugh and beautiful smile. She was exactly what our team needed and came to us at the perfect time. When I walked onto the unit and saw her there I always knew that not only would the patients have a great day, but so would I. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met. She loved her friends and Devon so much and spoke of them all so highly and so often. She also frequently spoke of the 111 staff and what a family they were to her, and I can certainly attest for what a wonderful nurse they helped her become. I miss her and will continue to miss her very much. She has left a permanent mark on my heart that only someone as special as her could leave. Thank you for coming into my life Kayla, even for a short while. To her friends and family: thank you for raising such a wonderful woman. The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind. May memories give you strength and comfort you always. Candy x

I am so very sorry for your loss. I am at a loss for words. Kayla was our first ringette coach when she was 15. We created a lot of fun memories that year and many years to follow. She was always there for the girls whenever they needed her, like a big sister. We had the honor of watching Kayla grow up with our children and turn into the wonderful woman that she became. Her passion was nursing, her passion was people. When Kayla moved away she always kept in touch with our family and we would always get together when she would come home. She was the most beautiful, caring, loving person and would light up a room with her smile. She was a wonderful mother to Devon, who was her pride and joy. Her biggest hero was her brother Derek. She was always putting everyone before herself. She will be greatly missed and all of our memories will live on in our hearts forever. Love you Kayla

Russ,Becky, Derek and her precious son Devon. I am at a loss for words as there are no words to describe how very sorry I am for your loss. Kayla was such a special friend to Brie and myself. Kayla, at the young age of 15, was Brie’s first Ringette coach. Out of that season blossomed quite the ringette family with many laughs. Kayla always put others first and was always the first to help others. Her laugh was contagious and her smile was bright. She will be dearly missed. Kayla, you will always be in our hearts and our thoughts. Everytime I watch a Rider game, Pats game, or a Ringette game you will find me with a grin on my face thinking about all the fun Memories and crazy laughs we had

Kayla had such an incredible warm smile and laugh. I was blessed enough to do nursing school with her. My heart is so sad at this news and I am praying for everyone in this time. I lost my older brother earlier this year and it was then that I truly learned that God is near to the broken hearted.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Kayla on the Neuro Unit (111). Kayla was one of my first friends at work. She always took the time to ask how I was doing. We worked together often before she made the transition to ICU. Kayla always had a big beautiful smile, she was loved by us all and will be greatly missed.

Kayla was one of my best friends during nursing school and I dont know how I would have gotten through those 4 years without her friendship. Late night study sessions and after school dinner, we had a lot of fun! We were also roommates for a bit while in our 4th year and into graduation in Calgary. Time and distance caused us to drift apart but we still kept in touch via social media. I'm so saddened by this news and send prayers and peace to all of her family and friends during such an incredibly difficult time. I'm so sorry for your loss. She will be so greatly missed.
