Obituary of Isabelle Laura May Lyon

LYON, Isabelle

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our beloved mother and grandma on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the age of 86 years. Left to cherish her memory are the families of her daughter Jody (Royce), grandson Jordan (Mackenzie) and great-grandsons Theo and Elliot; and grandson Ryan (Niki); daughter Wendy (Kim), granddaughters Sadie, Emily, and grandson Graydon. She will also be missed by sisters-in-law Joyce and Lois (Norm) and brothers-in-law Doug and Allan (Judy); as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Isabelle was predeceased by her loving husband Stan (2011); her parents Thomas and Ida Hollowell; brothers Donald and Spencer; sisters Bertha Folbar (Bern), Noel Riel, Dorothy Brown (Milt), and Alice Jespersen (Ken); sister-in-law Deanna Lyon and brother-in-law Bill McCall.

Isabelle was born and raised in Wolseley, SK, where she attended school and later worked as a switchboard operator. In 1953, she married Stan, the love of her life, and moved to Regina, where she worked at SaskTel for 8 years and then at Sears for 17 years until her retirement in 1988. Isabelle was very active in Rosemont United Church, serving on various committees and the UCW. She also enjoyed bowling, golf, square dancing, cards, curling, and helping to renovate both daughters’ homes. Isabelle loved to tend her flower gardens and always made the most beautiful arrangements. She was renowned for her gorgeous gift wrapping, lemon-butter tarts, Saskatoon pie, and always winning at Chinese checkers. Isabelle was a life-long Rider and curling fan. She also had a great love of animals, especially her beloved cat, Misty, who was a great source of joy and comfort to her. Isabelle’s most treasured times were spent with her family and many friends. She enjoyed attending all her grandchildren’s sports, concerts, and competitions while she was able, and remained keenly invested in everyone’s daily lives. In spite of serious health concerns and major surgeries throughout her life, Isabelle remained resilient. We will all miss her very much, but are blessed to have had her for as long as we did. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Helping Hands Care Home for their care during the past 6 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Regina Humane Society, P.O. Box 3143 Stn. Main, Regina, SK S4P 3G7, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 1738 Quebec Avenue, Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9, or to a charity of your choice.
