Obituary of Frederick John Wiest

FREDERICK JOHN WIEST Frederick John Wiest of Regina passed away on November 11, 2012, after a brief stay in hospital nine days short of his 93rd birthday. Fred was born to parents Peter and Ida on November 20, 1919 at Balgonie, SK. Fred was one of Pere Murrays Hounds of Notre Dame in Wilcox where he excelled in baseball and hockey from 1934 to 1940 when he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. After one hockey season in Kelowna, Fred enlisted in the RCAF in 1941 and served in WWII in Burma and India. On his return, Fred married the love of his life Julianna on November 12, 1945 and they spent the next 67 years together. Fred was employed by the government and then had a long career at Federated Co-op until his retirement. Freds devotion to Julie, family, and his faith in the church was unwavering. Fred will be greatly missed by his wife Julianna (nee Leibel) and sons; Murray (Josie) of Vancouver Island, grandchildren Dallas, Tanya (Henry) and their mother Donna; Jim (Alie) of Vancouver Island, granddaughter Zena (Ian) and great-granddaughters Mikayla and Isabelle; Pat (Debbie) of Regina and grandsons Andrew and Fraser; and Tim of Regina and grandchildren Cameron, Elora and Dylan. Also left to grieve are Freds brothers Cecil (Lea), Raymond (Joyce), sister-in-law Mary (Robert) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred will also be remembered by sister-in-law Gladys (Bill) Lord, nieces Susan, Shannon and their families; and brother-in-law Vern (Alva) and family. Fred was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Ida, Albert, George, William, Elizabeth, Leonard, Helen, Robert, Clifford and Evelyn. The family wishes to acknowledge Fred and Julies dear friends and neighbours Bob and June Hoffart. A special thank you to the nurses on Unit 4C at the Pasqua Hospital for their compassion and kindness. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecilias R.C. Church, 5020 7th Avenue, Regina, SK. on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. John Weckend, Celebrant.
