Obituary of Nancy Edith Bakay

BAKAY, Nancy Edith

 January 8, 1941 – November 30, 2018

Nancy Edith Bakay (née Thompson), late of Regina, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018, after a series of illnesses.

Born and raised on the family farm at Bensham, between Sylvania and Bjorkdale, Nancy set off early to attend school first in Allanville and then Tisdale. She continued to Saskatoon where she was trained and found employment as a bookkeeper. On holiday in Banff, AB, she met her future husband George, and soon gave birth to son Brook. The new family followed employment across Alberta and Saskatchewan, adding son Warren in Fairview, AB, and son Graham in Swift Current, before settling in Regina.

Nancy will be remembered as a tireless and fierce protector of those she loved, and as a kind and compassionate soul—quick to laugh and quicker to hug—who was selfless in thought and deed to everyone she encountered. She will be missed at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, where she was a congregant for nearly 40 years, and at Rider games, where she was a congregant for nearly 60.

Nancy was predeceased by parents Henry (Harry) Thompson and Jean Thompson (née Jones); son Brook (Vanessa); and brother Albert. She is survived by sons Warren and Graham (Lauren); long-awaited and much loved granddaughters Lillian and Violet; sisters Barbara (David) and Irene (Dwayne); and brothers Ross (Joan) and Ken (Joyce).

A service to celebrate Nancy’s life will take place at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 2333 Argyle Road, Regina, SK on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow on Sunday in Sylvania.

Those so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to the Regina Humane Society, P.O. Box 3143 Stn. Main, Regina, SK S4P 3G7.
