Obituary of Doreen Christie

It is with great sadness that the family announce her passing on Friday, February 8, 2019. Born on November 9, 1926 in Yorkton, SK to Roy and Ethel Beck. She was predeceased by her husband Glen W. Christie in 2008; her parents; four brothers, Allan, Fred, Gordon, and Ross Beck; and sisters, Mabel Maxwell and Beryl Reitmeier. Doreen is survived by daughter Maureen (Jim) Burbank; son Doug (Marilyn) Christie and their children Meghan (Scott) Campbell, Jim (Shauna) Christie, and Graham Christie; daughter Dianne (Ian) Aldworth and their two sons Chad (Miranda) Aldworth and Corey (Emily) Aldworth and daughters Kelly Jo Aldworth and Jennie Aldworth; sisters-in-law Veryl Beck (Edm), Fran (Don) Gilley, of Victoria, BC; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.  Mom felt so blessed to have seven “great” grandchildren in her life (with a new baby on the way in the spring), Dylan, Parker and Isabelle Christie, Erik and William Campbell, Mattix Aldworth, Lilah Aldworth and Jenna Close. Doreen was a warm and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to so many. After graduating as a registered nurse from the Regina General Hospital, in 1948, Mom enjoyed a long and varied nursing career, forming many lasting friendships with her RGN classmates. Spending time with Dad, us kids, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, summers at the cottage, baking (best buns ever), sewing, gardening, knitting, needlepoint, walks in Wascana Park, and cheering on the Riders, were some of Mom’s favorite times. The family wishes to thank the compassionate and caring staff in the ER Dept. at the Pasqua Hospital, you all helped us thru this tough time. It was Mom’s request that there be no funeral. A private family interment will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial donations to be made in Doreen’s name to the Children’s Hospital Foundation in Saskatoon, 1-345 3rd Avenue, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1M6.
